Thanksgiving Recipe: Simple Gravy

Chef Ben’s GraVy Recipe

  • 1/2 lb diced butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 quart beef stock
  • 1 quart poultry/chicken stock
  • 2 tbs garlic powder
  • 2 tbs onion powder
  • 1 tbs dried thyme
  • ~2 tbs salt / more to taste
  • Minced parsley
  • Pinch cayenne powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  1. In a saucepan over medium low heat, melt butter (you can add a bit of water to pan beforehand)
  2. Add flour to saucepan and stir with a rubber spatula until combined with butter. Cook and continue to stir for about a minute, then bring to medium heat
  3. Add beef and poultry stock to saucepan, whisk and cook for about a minute
  4. Add remainder of ingredients to saucepan, whisk until all ingredients are combined
  5. Bring to low heat, simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring every few minutes
  6. Remove bay leaf and serve!
